Accuracy, Transparency, and Accountability
Uzbekistan Observer is committed to accurate and responsible journalism.
We recognise that factual mistakes, incomplete information, and misunderstandings may occasionally occur. When a material error is identified and verified, our goal is to address it fairly, transparently, and without unnecessary delay.
Our Corrections Policy explains how readers can report potential inaccuracies and how corrections are handled.
Reporting an Error
We welcome correction requests from readers, sources, organisations, and individuals mentioned in our coverage.
If you believe an article contains inaccurate or misleading information, please contact us through our Contact Us page.
To help us review your request, please include:
- The title and link of the relevant article.
- A clear description of the information you believe is incorrect.
- The correct information, where known.
- Supporting documentation or credible references, if available.
We review substantive correction requests according to the information provided and the nature of the issue raised.
Types of Corrections
Factual Corrections
When an article contains a demonstrable factual error, such as an incorrect name, date, figure, quotation, or material statement, we aim to correct it.
Significant corrections may include a note explaining what was changed.
Clarifications
An article may be factually accurate but lack important context or contain wording that could reasonably cause misunderstanding.
In such cases, we may add clarification or revise the relevant passage to improve accuracy and understanding.
Updates
Developing stories may change as new information becomes available.
Articles may be updated to reflect subsequent events, newly confirmed details, or additional responses.
Routine updates do not necessarily constitute corrections.
Retractions
In exceptional circumstances, when the central substance of an article is found to be fundamentally unreliable or materially incorrect, we may retract the article.
Where appropriate, a retraction notice will explain the decision.
Transparency in Corrections
We seek to handle significant corrections openly.
Where a material correction is made, we may include an editorial note identifying the nature of the change.
We aim to preserve a clear distinction between correcting errors and updating articles with newly available information.
Right of Reply
Individuals and organisations who believe they have been inaccurately represented may contact us to provide relevant information or request an opportunity to respond.
We evaluate such requests on their merits, considering accuracy, fairness, relevance, and the public interest.
A request for a response does not automatically require the removal or alteration of accurate reporting.
Requests for Removal
Uzbekistan Observer does not ordinarily remove accurate, lawfully published articles solely because the information is unwelcome or unfavourable to a person or organisation.
Requests involving demonstrable inaccuracies, substantial privacy concerns, legal obligations, or significant safety considerations will be assessed individually.
Our Commitment
Corrections are an important part of maintaining public trust.
We welcome good-faith feedback and aim to uphold standards of accuracy, accountability, and transparency throughout our editorial work.
To request a correction, please use our Contact Us page and identify your message as a correction request.
