University students in Uzbekistan can now claim a free 12-month subscription to Google’s Gemini AI Plus plan, gaining access to an expanded suite of artificial intelligence tools and 400 gigabytes of cloud storage at no cost, the Ministry of Digital Technologies announced on 12 October.
To redeem the offer, students must register through Aileaders.uz, a platform operating under the government’s Five Million AI Leaders initiative, and verify their enrolment status through the portal. The ministry said the offer became possible after SheerID — Google’s international student verification partner — added Uzbekistan to its list of supported countries following an agreement facilitated by the ministry.
The Gemini AI Plus plan ordinarily costs $4.99 a month, placing the value of the 12-month offer at close to $60 per student, according to the ministry.
What the subscription includes
Subscribers receive doubled usage limits for Gemini, Google’s flagship AI assistant, along with access to the Flash Thinking model. The plan also unlocks Google Flow, a tool that uses AI to generate cinematic scenes, and provides expanded access to Gemini Notebook, Google’s AI-powered research and note-taking application. AI features integrated into Gmail are included, as is the 400 GB of cloud storage usable across Google’s services for files, photos and other content.
The Five Million AI Leaders initiative, under whose umbrella the Aileaders.uz platform sits, is a Ministry of Digital Technologies programme aimed at broadening AI literacy and skills among Uzbekistan’s population. The addition of Uzbekistan to SheerID’s supported-country list is a prerequisite for students anywhere to access Google’s discounted or free academic tiers, making the ministry’s facilitation of that agreement the practical gateway to the offer.
