Construction of 12 modern schools began simultaneously in Tashkent this week, the city hokimiyat announced, in a project being implemented jointly with construction company BI Group. The buildings will rise across 11 of the capital’s 12 districts, with Bektemir the only district excluded; Yangihayot district will receive two of the new campuses.
The hokimiyat said the eight-month construction timeline is intended to deliver 18,000 new school places before the start of the next academic year. Tashkent deputy hokim Durdona Rahimova said each school would have a capacity of between 1,500 and 2,000 students.
“These will be schools of a new format — technologically advanced, ergonomic, comfortable and inclusive,” the hokimiyat said in a statement. “Three types of designs have been developed, taking into account modern architectural solutions and the necessary infrastructure.”
Nurbol Shalkenov, portfolio director for Central Asia at BI Group, said the schools have been designed in line with international standards and modern teaching practices. Each building will stand five storeys tall and consist of seven educational blocks, a modular configuration that allows them to be attached to existing school facilities.
A parallel initiative has been developed to construct 16 modern kindergartens across the city. Rahimova said those facilities will be offered in five distinct designs, though further details on locations or timelines were not provided in the hokimiyat’s announcement.
Tashkent has faced persistent pressure on its education infrastructure as the city’s population has grown. The simultaneous groundbreaking across eleven districts signals an effort to address overcrowding at scale rather than through piecemeal additions, though the hokimiyat did not specify which existing schools the new blocks would be attached to, or how places would be allocated once construction is complete.
